Former Australian legendary fast bowler Glenn McGrath has picked his top three sides for the ICC World Cup 2019. McGrath believes hosts England, India and Australia will be the top three sides of the showpiece event. In fact, McGrath picked England as the favourites to lift the coveted trophy on 14th July at Lord’s.

England has been in sublime form in the recent past and they have played relentlessly in the last four years. The hosts had also defeated Pakistan by 4-0 in the recently concluded bilateral series. Thus, they would like to continue their good form going in the quadrennial event. Moreover, Eoin Morgan led side will have the home advantage under their belt.

England will be favourites – Glenn McGrath.

England has a potent unit as they have posted scores in excess of 300 on a regular basis. On the other hand, India is also considered as one of the big favourites to win the World Cup.

The Indian team has played consistently in the last four years and they would like to tick the right boxes in the World Cup. India’s bowling unit has gone from strength to strength. Since it is going to be a high-scoring competition, the bowlers will play a key role in the team’s success.

Glenn McGrath also picked reigning champions Australia. Australia has roared back to form at the right time. They were able to surprise India as they defeated them by 3-2 despite trailing by 2-0 in the five-match series.

Furthermore, they were able to clean sweep Pakistan by 5-0 in the bilateral series which was played in the UAE. Moreover, Steven Smith and David Warner have returned to the side after serving their ban, which adds more stability to the side.

India and England are favourites.

On the other hand, England will begin the World Cup campaign against South Africa at Kennington Oval, London. India will take on South Africa on 5th June at Rose Bowl, Southampton whereas Australia will take on Afghanistan in their World Cup opener.

Glenn McGrath took to Twitter to share his thoughts. McGrath post read as, “Looking forward to the 2019 Cricket World Cup starting on May 30. My 3 top teams are England, India & of course Australia. As much as it kills me to say, England cricket are the favourites, they’ve got a good team &…”.
