Pakistan Cricket team have announced their 15-member squad for the upcoming ICC World Cup 2019 in England and Wales starting from May 30. Interestingly, fast bowler, Mohammad Amir has failed to make the cut; however, will travel to England for the T20 and ODI series against England just ahead of the marquee tournament.

The 18-year-old pacer Mohammad Hasnain leapfrogged Mohammad Amir to secure a ticket to England. Chairman of selectors, Inzamam-ul-Haq said that Hasnain’s ability to clock 150kph consistently got him the berth. While the decision too many by surprise, the statistics don’t seem so. Since his match-winning spell against India in Champions Trophy final in 2017, Mohammad Amir’s graph has drastically gone down.

In the last two years, he has picked only five wickets bowling 101 overs at an average of 92.60 per wicket. Amir’s record is the worst among all bowlers who have sent down at least 600 balls in this period. The second-worst specialist fast bowler in this period in terms of wickets taken to runs conceded is England’s Mark Wood, and he averages 47.75, nearly twice as good as Amir.

Following the recent snub, Mohammad Amir took to Twitter to congratulate the Pakistan team for the upcoming quadrennial event. He hopes that Sarfaraz Ahmed & Co will bring the trophy home and urged others to rally behind the team. Speaking on his selection for the England series, Amir said that he will give his full effort and deliver for Pakistan.
