ICC World Cup 2019: Twitter Reacts As England Restrict Australia In Second Phase Of The Innings
Updated - 11 Sep 2019, 06:02 PM
Australia posted a fighting score of 285 runs after England skipper Eoin Morgan won the toss and decided to bowl first in the 32nd match of the ICC World Cup at Lords on Tuesday. The Men in Yellow got off to a fine start as their openers Aaron Finch and David Warner gave another good start to their team. In fact, both the openers had to huff and puff as England bowlers bowled their heart out.

However, the host’s bowlers bowled without any luck on their side as they went past the outside edge on numerous occasions. But Australia was able to survive and once Warner and Finch were able to get their eye in, they were able to get their runs.
England was able to bounce back.
David Warner and Aaron Finch added a fine alliance of 123 runs which was their fifth consecutive fifty of the ongoing World Cup. However, the southpaw was dismissed soon after completing his fifty when one ball from Moeen Ali got big on him. Joe Root almost made a mess of an easy catch but he was able to hang on to it.
Usman Khawaja was cleaned up by a full delivery from Ben Stokes. However, Aaron Finch continued his good form going as the Australian captain completed his second World Cup hundred of this edition after Chris Woakes made a fumble in the dip.
But Finch was dismissed on the next ball when he top-edged a short delivery from Jofra Archer. On the other hand, Mark Wood bowled with fire in his second spell as he generated some serious pace. Glenn Maxwell looked threatening for his eight ball-12 but he could not control a short slower delivery from Mark Wood.

Steven Smith was able to continue his good form going but Marcus Stoinis was run-out. Smith scored 38 from 34 balls as England made a fine comeback in the second phase of the innings.
Here is how Twitter reacted to Australia’s innings:
Aaron Finch has become the second captain after South Africa's Graeme Smith to complete four successive fifties in a World Cup. Meanwhile, David Warner has crossed Shakib Al Hasan as #CWC19 highest run-scorer. Aussies are going strong here. #ENGvAUS

I will continue to say this. Smith must bat 3, there is no question about it. He is pure class and I just can’t understand why the Aussies won’t leave him there for every game ! Smith can adapt to any situation and bowlers fear him, plus he’s just pure class ! So why isn’t he ?

Good of Australia to put themselves in a position where Nathan Lyon might get a chance to contribute with the bat as well. Inclusive stuff. #CWC19

This World Cup Maxwell has 143 runs from 70 balls.
Hitting a boundary every 3.2 balls.
Out every 11.6.
That is very Maxwellian, even for Maxwell.

This is the test for Aus now. 12 overs, four wickets down. Question marks pre-tournament on this very scenario. #CWC19

English crowed at Lord’s utterly disappointing….didn’t hear a clap for Warner’s half century. Very very poor taste. #EngvAus #CWC19

Not the first time Steve Smith was ball watching… Too many wickets in this passage of play. Australia have just reduced their total by 20-30 runs. #CWC19 #EngvAus

You just can’t look away for a second when Maxy is batting. It might not last long and he can be frustrating as hell but he is one of sport’s great entertainers.

Maxwell suddenly realises he hasn't hit a ridiculous six yet and swiftly rectifies the situation. #CWC19

I still think England have the most balanced team in the competition, followed by New Zealand.. really can’t work out how they have managed to lose 2 games #ENGvAUS #CEC19

Game on now as Aust have thrown away a huge advantage and allowed England to get back into the game with some poor decision making with their batting and look to be 50 runs short. Having said that, the new ball will do a lot ! I hope Cummins and Starc take the new ball
