India’s rookie opener KL Rahul revealed that captain Virat Kohli had lashed out at him after he played a reverse sweep to get out against Afghanistan. Rahul was set then as he had scored 30 runs and should have gone on to convert his score into a substantial one. In fact, the stylish batsman hasn’t been able to make the most of his starts in the ongoing World Cup.

Furthermore, Rahul has taken his time in the initial phase of the innings. He has played second fiddle to Rohit Sharma. On the other hand, Virat Kohli has been the most consistent batsman and he is an epitome to Rahul on how he should bat big. Rohit Sharma has also done a fine job. However, apart from Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, the Indian middle order has been the team’s, Achilles Heel.

Rahul hasn’t been able to convert his starts into substantial scores.

Meanwhile, KL Rahul said that he has been in a good frame of mind. However, the disappointing part for him is that he hasn’t been converting his starts into a big score.

“To get the opportunity to bat up the order, I couldn’t have asked for anything more to get it in a stage like a World Cup. I came into the tournament with some runs in the IPL. I played well in the warm-up matches. So the confidence has been good. I am watching the ball well and I am in good head space. Just need to work from here. The only thing I am worried about is that I am getting starts but I am not able to convert them. I am sure it will come in the upcoming games,” KL Rahul told Star Sports after India’s 125-run win over West Indies in Manchester.

Rahul went on to reveal that the Indian captain was disappointed after he played a poor shot against Afghanistan. Kohli had told Rahul that both of them had to build a good partnership. However, it wasn’t to be the case.

Kohli has been super consistent.

“When Virat walked in, I told him it wasn’t coming on as well, it was a bit two-paced. was important that we got a partnership going. That’s a mistake I did against Afghanistan. Virat did give me quite an earful after I went back because in the middle he told me that the two of us had to take the game to 130-140 and then one of us can take off,” Rahul added.

Rahul has thus far scored 172 runs in the five innings at an average of 43. He is India’s third highest run-scorer but he would like to convert his starts into a big score. India will next take on England at Edgbaston, Birmingham on 30th June.
