Team India skipper Virat Kohli’s unprecedented feat-achieving record continued in the first Test against Sri Lanka at the Eden Gardens  as he scored a fine century to put India on the driver’s seat before bad light ended India’s hopes of winning the game. The right-handed batsman scored 104 not out of just 119 balls and in the process he became the only current batsman to average over 50 in all three formats of cricket.

The number one batsman in ODIs and T20Is, Kohli averages 55.74 in the 50-over format, 52.86 in the shortest format of the game and has now taken his average in the longest format of the game to 50.12.

Meanwhile, Kohli also achieved some other milestones with the sublime knock. The century was his 18th in Tests and the first at the iconic Eden Gardens. With his latest century, Kohli became the second Indian batsman after the legendary Sachin Tendulkar to register 50 international hundreds. The Delhi-born star is now eighth in the list of most number of international centuries. He is now the sixth in the list of Indians with the most number of Test centuries. Only Mohammed Azharuddin (22), Virender Sehwag (23), Sunil Gavaskar (34), Rahul Dravid (36) and Sachin Tendulkar (51) are ahead of him.

Kohli also equalled Hashim Amla’s record of hitting the fastest 50 international centuries, reaching the landmark in his 348th innings.

The Delhi-born star has now scored 11 centuries as an Indian captain in Tests, a joint-Indian record he shares with the legendary Sunil Gavaskar.  The knock also helped him to equal the record of most centuries in a calendar year as a captain. The century was Kohli’s ninth this year across all formats and helped him to go level with former Australia skipper Ricky Ponting (2005 and 2006) and South Africa skipper Graeme Smith (2005).
