The upcoming season will see  the much-anticipated return of Chennai Super Kings.  One of the most successful teams in the history of the league, the Chennai-based franchisee has lifted the IPL title and now-scrapped Champions League title twice. They are the only team till date to defend the IPL title. They also have the best win percentage among all teams in the IPL (60.68). In addition to winning two titles, the Super Kings also made it to the final of the tournament on four occasions.

However, their successful association with the league came to a screeching halt in 2015 when they along with Rajasthan Royals were suspended. The Supreme Court slapped the teams with a two-year suspension due to corruption charges. The whole country is now eagerly waiting to see the Men in Yellow setting the ground on fire once again.

For their comeback season, the Super Kings have relied on known faces. As a result, the team does not gives a very dominating look. Even before the start of the season, many feel that Super Kings are going to struggle in the upcoming season.

The biggest factor that looks likely to affect the team is the age factor. Before the auction, the Super Kings had retained their famous trio of MS Dhoni, Suresh Raina and Ravindra Jadeja. It was expected that the team will go all out in the auction and buy some youngsters.

However, the Super Kings instead adapted a calm approach and ended up buying several players who are well over 30. In a format, where youngsters are the need of the hour, the Chennai-based franchise went for players who are well past their prime.

Bizarrely,  none of their first eight buys in the auctions were aged under thirty. Faf du Plessis, Harbhajan Singh, Dwayne Bravo, Shane Watson, Kedar Jadhav, Ambati Rayudu, Imran Tahir and Karn Sharma are all aged thirty or more.

But while the age factor is certainly one which can impact the team’s performance, one can count off the Super Kings at his own peril. The team knows how to win the league very well and will be keen to make their comeback season a memorable one.
