IPL 2019: Lasith Malinga To Miss Upcoming Few Games For Mumbai Indians

Lasith Malinga, who received the no objection certificate from Sri Lankan board for his participation in the Indian Premier League, wants to return home to participate in the home tournament. He wants to lead Galle side in a bid to watch out the players for the upcoming ICC World Cup 2019. Malinga will miss Upcoming Few Games For Mumbai Indians.

Earlier, it was reported that Malinga might miss the first six matches for Mumbai Indians in order to take part in a tournament in Sri Lanka. Jayawardene, however, said that Mumbai Indians weren’t informed of his lack of availability during this phase. But, now, he is leaving with permission.

Recently,  the Board of Control for Cricket in India requested Sri Lanka Cricket to make Lasith Malinga available for IPL as much as he can. Islanders considered the plea of BCCI, which prompted them to send the fast bowler for a couple of matches before the start of the local tournament.

Lasith Malinga decided to play – Sri Lankan selector

The flamboyant cricketer was available for both away games – on March 28 against Royal Challengers Bangalore and on March 30 against Kings XI Punjab. In the first game, he bowled a brilliant last over to see Mumbai Indians winning a thriller while in the other, he failed to make any difference.

Meanwhile, one of the national selectors of Sri Lanka confirmed that their skipper Lasith Malinga will be returning back home in order to participate in the tournament. The best-performed players will get the nod for ICC World Cup 2019.

“Yes, he (Malinga) will be reaching Sri Lanka tomorrow. He will be available for the provincial tournament. He wanted to play the provincial tournament. Last week, we had agreed to release him for the entire IPL. But, now, he wants to play in this tournament,” he said.” Sri Lanka’s chief national selector Ashantha de Mel told Sportstar.

Well, it is learnt that Lasith Malinga wants to lead the team in the upcoming ICC World Cup 2019. In order to be in the scheme of things, he wants to lead Galle side in the tournament. In between, he will also have a close look at the players, who are performing well.
