IPL 2019: Match 22, KXIP vs SRH - Twitter Erupts as KL Rahul Wins it for Kings XI Punjab

Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) banked on KL Rahul’s match-winning knock to beat Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in match 22 of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2019 by six wickets on April 8 (Monday) at the PCA IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali.

Karnataka boys does the job for Punjab

Chasing a modest score, Chris Gayle struck one four and one six to provide a good start. However, Rashid Khan struck in the fourth over to have Kings XI Punjab at 18 for one. Since then, Mayank Agarwal and KL Rahul stitched on a good stand to set the tone for the chase. They played their shots at will as the runs came by. The two of the Karnataka boys looked in complete control of things as the odd boundaries kept coming in every overs.

Hyderabad skipper Bhuvneshwar Kumar tried all his options but wickets were hard to come by. When on song, KL Rahul is such a pleasure to watch and Mayank Agarwal was just the icing on the cake. With 40 runs needed off the last six overs, the duo continued to lead the charge and in the process reached their individual half-centuries. However, with 19 runs required off 18 balls, Sandeep Sharma provided two breakthroughs to make this game a bit interesting. But KL Rahul kept his head strong to win it for Kings XI Punjab after a few late blows.

Warner’s knock goes in vain

Meanwhile, batting first, Sunrisers Hyderabad never really get going as Kings XI Punjab bowled outstanding line and length. Mujeeb-ur Rahman got the better of Jonny Bairstow in the second over to give the home side a perfect start. Since then, David Warner and Vijay Shankar added 49 runs for the second wicket. However, the big shots were hard to come and they had to rely mostly on ones and two’s. Hyderabad could only manage to score 50 runs t the half-way stage and they were in desperate need to up the scoring rate.

Right then, Kings XI Punjab skipper Ravichandran Ashwin got the edge of Shankar to have Sunrisers Hyderabad at 56 for two. But David Warner kept the scoreboard ticking from the other end while the odd boundaries kept coming. He stitched small partnerships with Mohammad Nabi and Manish Pandey to post 150 runs at the end of 20 overs. David Warner continued his good form to remain unbeaten on 70 runs to give a good momentum to the Hyderabad side.

This win will be a massive advantage as they will come up the points table and sit on the third spot after Kolkata Knight Riders and Chennai Super Kings.
