Rajasthan Royals (RR) secured a thumping win over Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to keep their hopes alive in the ongoing season of Indian Premier League. However, they received a significant setback soon after the game as star cricketers – Ben Stokes and Jofra Archer have left the squad to link with the England team. Although Stokes didn’t play any crucial role, Archer was scintillating and played a vital role in beating Kolkata. To make things worse, skipper Steven Smith will also depart for Australia after the game against Royal Challengers Bangalore.

Meanwhile, Rajasthan Royals scripted a tremendous turnaround. And it was led by 17-year-old Riyan Parag, who showed composure, firstly to have the belief of winning from a position of 98 for five with most of the batting back in the pavilion, and then to back himself in the death overs. However, the asking rate was never out of control, but the lack of batting depth left the Royals vulnerable.

Smith to leave after Bangalore match

That’s when Parag, playing his fourth IPL game, batted with such maturity. He along with Jofra Archer registered one of the historic wins for the Rajasthan Royals. Archer failed to take his name to the wickets column, but he came out and whacked 27 off 12 balls to provide the finishing touches. However, it was at the presentation ceremony when Steven Smith revealed that he will leave after the 13th game of the season. He also added that they have big shoes to fill with Jofra Archer and Ben Stokes leaving the squad. The former Australia skipper also sounded hopeful to contribute and guide Rajasthan Royals to few more victories.

We lose a few players now. Jofra and Stokesy are off tonight, they go back to England now – two big holes to fill. I am here for 13 games. After the Bangalore one, I’ll be heading back. Hopefully, I can contribute and see if we can get few more wins,” Smith said.

With eight points from 11 games, Rajasthan still have a slight chance of qualifying. They take on Sunrisers Hyderabad next on April 27 (Saturday) at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur.
