Sanjeev Churiwala, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) chairman, has confirmed the date for the team’s departure to UAE for IPL 2020. The entire competition will be played in the UAE this year because of the alarming coronavirus situation in the country.

IPL 2020 is scheduled to start on September 19 while the final is scheduled on November 10. Originally, the tournament was scheduled to be played from March 29 to May 17. However, the BCCI had to suspend the league indefinitely in the light of the pandemic.

But with the ICC finally postponing the T20 World Cup last month, the path became clear for the BCCI to conduct the cash-rich tournament this year. All the franchises will start their preparation later this month after they fly to UAE. And Royal Challengers Bangalore will leave for UAE on August 21 or 22 or around that time, according to Churiwala. The BCCI has already told the franchises that no team can leave for UAE before August 20.

“The players would start assembling in a few days and after reaching Bengaluru, they will follow the protocol as decided by the BCCI’s standard operating procedures (SOP). They will be staying in a select hotel before leaving the country. Tests will be done as per the SOP. All Indian players and the support staff will be flying out in a chartered plane,” Churiwala told this The New Indian Express.

The players will have to follow strict protocols while staying in bio-secure bubbles for the entire tournament due to the prevailing conditions. Along with the players, their families will also have to live within the bio-bubble. Once they move inside the bubble, they won’t be allowed to move out.

“Very selective players (of RCB) will be taking their families along with them. Families will also be subjected to the guidelines of the bio-bubble,” said Churiwala.
