Former Indian opener Virender Sehwag has picked his IPL XI of IPL 2020 with some very interesting choices being named in the team. IPL 2020 came to a close on Tuesday as Mumbai Indians (MI) beat Delhi Capitals (DC) by 5 wickets in the final of the tournament to clinch their 5th IPL trophy.

After the conclusion of the tournament, Virender Sehwag went ahead to pick his IPL XI of this year’s edition. At the opening slot, he went ahead with Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) skipper, KL Rahul and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) knight in shining armour this season, Devdutt Padikkal.

At the number three spot, he picked Suryakumar Yadav from Mumbai Indians, followed by the RCB skipper, Virat Kohli at number four, and the SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) captain David Warner at number 5.

Interestingly, Virender Sehwag chose Virat Kohli as the captain of his side. A couple of days ago he had come out in Kohli’s defence when other former cricketers and fans were raising questions on him as RCB were once again eliminated from the tournament without a trophy.

“He (Suryakumar) has performed brilliantly since the last three seasons and he’s shown consistency. At No. 4 I’ve picked Kohli. He always scores runs and hence I’ve given him captaincy as well. He’s an aggressive player and captain and can take the team along with him.” Sehwag said on Cricbuzz.

“At No. 5 I’ve picked David Warner because he’s been in great form and scored runs. I was confused whom to pick as captain – David Warner or Virat Kohli – but went ahead with Kohli because he can open the innings as well as bat in the middle order,” Sehwag added.

Virender Sehwag picked AB de Villiers as his number 6 batsman.

“The competition was fierce for No. 6 – Pollard and Pandya were contenders, but based on this year’s performance, I’ve picked ABD,” Sehwag added.

He went ahead with five bowlers in his line up. Sehwag chose three fast bowlers, Kagiso Rabada, Jasprit Bumrah, and Mohammed Shami. He also went ahead with leg-spinners Yuzvendra Chahal and Rashid Khan as his two frontline spinners. Ishan Kishan, who smoked 30 sixes, the most by a player in this year’s IPL is Sehwag’s, 12th man.
