England’s breathtaking batting display in the ongoing game was marred by injury to their star man Jos Buttler. The hosts recovered from the shocking defeat against Pakistan in their last outing to hammer Bangladesh. Jason Roy scored a stunning ton while Jos Buttler scored a blazing fifty as England piled up a mammoth 386 for 6 in the stipulated 50 overs. Jonny Bairstow scored a fifty too.

Asked to bat first, Roy and Bairstow set the tone for the big total by adding 128 runs for the first wicket. As usual, Roy was more aggressive while Bairstow played the role of second fiddle to perfection. Bairstow was the first to depart when Mashrafe Mortaza sent him back for 51. Last match’s centurion, Joe Root failed to do well this time as he scored 21.

Roy, however, was unfazed by the loss of his partners as he continued going hammer and tongs. He completed his ton and was looking primed to score a double ton too. In the 35th over of the innings, he hit Mehedi Hasan’s first three balls for sixes. Attempting a fourth, Roy was caught in the deep but Buttler ensured the momentum remained with the hosts with a superb half-century. Towards the end, Liam Plunkett played a fine cameo of 27 runs from just 9 deliveries to guide England to a mammoth total.

However, the batting display turned bitter with the way Buttler was struggling with his hip injury. Buttler suffered the injury in the 38th over when he rocked back to hit Mosaddek Hossain for a huge six. In doing so, Buttler seemed to have sustained the injury and soon called the physio. The wicketkeeper-batsman continued batting but was clearly hobbling as he was struggling with his running.

The injury is looking serious as Buttler did not don the wicketkeeping gloves and Jonny Bairstow had to stand behind the wicket. England perhaps did not send Buttler on the field as a precautionary measure.
