The flamboyant cricketer Kane Richardson, who missed the first ODI because of a sore throat, tested Negative for Corona Virus. The news comes in as a sigh of relief, as the fast bowler will join the team from the second ODI. Meanwhile, Sean Abbott will join his domestic team, who came in as a cover for Kane Richardson.

Richardson was quarantined and tested for the virus after he complained of a sore throat a day before Australia’s first ODI against New Zealand at the Sydney Cricket Ground. Richardson thus missed the first game, with pacer Sean Abbott being called in as a replacement cover.

“Our medical staff are treating this a typical throat infection but we are following Australian Government protocols that require us to keep Kane away from other members of the squad and perform the appropriate tests given he has returned from international travel in the last 14 days,” a Cricket Australia spokesperson said earlier in the day.

The Aaron Finch-led side went with Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins and Josh Hazlewood for the first ODI against New Zealand in Sydney. All of them did brilliantly to make things fall in place for the home side.

As per media reports, the deadly disease was first noticed in China’s Wuhan and has since spread worldwide. More than 127,000 people have been infected with Coronavirus, with over 4,700 having died and 68,000 recovered. Because of the virus breakout, the first ODI between New Zealand and Australia was played in empty stands.
