The tenure of the current crop of support staffs came to an end after India’s shocking ouster from the World Cup. BCCI decided to extend it by 45 days until the series against West Indies. It was earlier decided that the meeting will take place around on July 13 and 14, but now, as per the recent reports, it will take place post the Independence Day.

Speaking to IANS, sources in the know of developments also added that it will be in all likelihood a one-day process. He also added that after the initial screening, six candidates have made it to the final round where they will interview with the three-member selectional panel. Reports also saw that there are still some works left before they finally announce India’s next head coach.

“The meeting was initially set to take place on August 13 and 14, but after shortlisting the candidates, it has come to the fore that around six candidates fit the bill for the position of the head coach and thus, one day of interviews should be enough. Some paperwork still remains and that needs to be completed before the CAC can start the process of interviewing the eligible candidates. Don’t see the process happening before August 15,” the source said.

Meanwhile, popular perceptions say that incumbent head coach Ravi Shastri will retain his chair for another term. Shastri, who joined the team in 2017 after Anil Kumble decided to step down as the head coach, has enjoyed great success with this Indian team. Under the leadership of Virat Kohli and Shastri, India have made it to the top of the Test rankings, while they occupied the second spot in the ODIs.
