KL Rahul pressed a strong case of keeping his place in the playing going ahead as the right-handed batsman scored a magnificent century in the second ODI in Vizag. Opening the innings with Rohit Sharma, Rahul scored 102 runs and put up 227 runs for the first wicket in 37 overs.

Rahul, after completing his century, came up with an animated celebration, imitating the celebration of footballer Ayoze Perez. Reacting to his celebration, Rahul did not talk much but hogged much limelight. “Let it stay a mystery,” he said on being asked about the celebration by Ian Bishop.

With this century, Rahul might leapfrog Dhawan in the pecking order and might be preferred over the senior batsman when he returns to the squad. Dhawan was a part of the T20I and ODI squad but missed out due to injury.

In his absence, Rahul opened the innings in three T20Is and scored two half-centuries in the series. He failed to play a big knock in first ODI but scored an impressive century in Vizag. Rahul has one more ODI left to perform and force the team management to keep him in the playing XI.

Also, he might be preferred over Dhawan for Sri Lanka T20Is next month and if he does well there as well, the team management will be forced to keep Rahul in the playing XI.

Talking of the match, riding on centuries from Rahul and Rohit Sharma, the Men in Blue piled up a score of 387/5. Rishabh Pant (39 off 16) and Shreyas Iyer (53 off 32) played their part in the end and kept the scoring- rate high. Their late surge saw India put up a big total on the board.

Chasing the target, West India are two down for 82 after 15 overs and will need Shai Hope to play a big. Chasing a target of 288 first ODI in Chennai, Hope (102*) and Shimron Hetmyer (139) put up 218 runs for the second wicket to lead the visitors to a big victory.

West Indies lead the three-match series 1-0.
