Virat Kohli is gearing up for his biggest captaincy challenge till date – the World Cup. The India skipper has done extremely well since replacing the legendary MS Dhoni at the helm. However, Kohli and his team will have to be at their best if they want to lay their hands on the coveted World Cup trophy. The last time, Kohli led India in an ICC tournament, the team had made it to the final.

Kohli’s first and only ICC tournament so far is the 2017 ICC Champions Trophy. Incidentally, it was held in England too. Kohli had gone on to lead India to the final where Pakistan beat the Men in Blue to lift the trophy. Kohli will be looking to go one step further this time when he leads his troop in England once again. And ahead of the tournament, the India skipper has said that spinners Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav will be team’s main strength. In the ICC Champions Trophy, R Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja had fared poorly.

They soon lost their spots to Chahal and Kuldeep and since then India have enjoyed a good run in ODIs. Both the wrist spinners have delivered consistently irrespective of conditions.  And Kohli has made it clear that he will bank on Chahal and Kuldeep once again to deliver the good.

“Of course, it’s going to be our main strength (the wrist-spin duo of Kuldeep and Chahal),”Virat Kohli told India Today.

“I mean, we have to give credit to both of them. The things that they have done in the last two years since they came into the team have been outstanding,” he added.

Virat Kohli also probably took a dig at Ashwin and Jadeja by saying that Kuldeep and Chahal are taking wickets in the middle overs which the team was ‘lacking for a long, long time’.

“They are taking wickets in the middle overs. That’s something we were lacking for a long, long time before. We never struggled in the death overs because of what they do in the middle overs. It’s all about bowling partnerships. They have come into the team beautifully and doing the job beautifully for us,” said Virat Kohli.

Meanwhile, this year’s World Cup will see all the ten teams playing against each other once. The top four teams will then make it to the semifinals. The World Cup will start on May 30 with India opening their campaign on June 5 against South Africa.
