Mayank Agarwal Breaks a 17-year-old Record

Top-order batsman Mayank Agarwal has had an outstanding stint in this years Ranji Trophy. However, he didn’t have a good start to his career as he was overlooked after a moderate U-19 World Cup in 2010. Three years after he made his first-class debut but big scores faded away.

Things started to change from the 2015-16 season where he made his debut hundred against Delhi. People started raising questions after he scored only hundred in the next season.

The 2017-18 season also started on a poor note, but he made a strong comeback from the third game. He notched up a triple hundred in the first innings against Maharashtra to start his dream run. However, he failed to come good in the semifinal as his team lost by five runs against Vidharbha.

Mayank registered 1033 runs in November, a world record for most runs scored by a batsman in that month. He took only seven innings from 4 matches to score those runs. The earlier record for November belonged to Andy Flower who scored 753 runs in 2000.

Here is the list of batsmen with most runs in a calendar month:

Hendren, Ponsford, and Compton too needed only four matches to score the runs. Ponsford scored 1013 runs off 1146 in Melbourne Cricket Ground. Hendren is the only batsman to have scored all these runs on foreign soil- in West Indies.

Visu Sibanda registered 752 runs from 3 matches in October 2009 on his way to scoring nine centuries. Hutton scored three ducks in as many innings in four days in the middle of the month to start off. He then came back to score the most runs by any batsman in a calendar month in first-class cricket.
