MI vs DC: Twitterverse Reacts As RCB Qualifies For IPL 2022 Playoffs As MI Beat DC By 5 Wickets
Updated - 22 May 2022, 02:09 AM
Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) qualified for the playoffs of the IPL 2022, thanks to Mumbai Indians (MI) defeating Delhi Capitals (DC) in the 69th match of the tournament at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on May 21, 2022.
This was a must-win game for DC in order to qualify for the playoffs and a chance to play Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the Eliminator match in Kolkata. However, MI won the match on the back of some amazing bowling and poor fielding and bowling by their opponents.
DC batted first after MI skipper Rohit Sharma won the toss and chose to bowl. MI made two changes as Hrithik Shokeen and Dewald Brevis came into the XI; while DC made one change as Prithvi Shaw returned to the team as well.
Capitals did well to score 159/7 in 20 overs with Prithvi Shaw making 24, Rishabh Pant making 39, while Rovman Powell top-scoring with 43 and Axar Patel contributing a valuable 19*. For MI, Jasprit Bumrah came to the party and got 3/23, while Ramandeep Singh took 2 wickets.
In reply, Rohit Sharma’s dismal IPL 2022 came to an end without a half-century, as he was dismissed for 2 runs. Ishan Kishan looked good for his 48 runs until he skied one ball from Kuldeep Yadav which was caught by David Warner.
Dewald Brevis made 37 in 33 balls with 1 four and 3 brilliant sixes and Tim David played an important cameo of 34 in 11 balls with 4 sixes and 2 fours and then the finishing touches were added by Ramandeep Singh who made 13* with 2 fours, taking MI to win by 5 wickets.
Twitterverse In Total Amazement As RCB Make It Into The Playoffs Thanks To MI Beating DC
DC needed to just win this match as their net run rate was superior to RCB and it would have been enough for them to go into the top four. RCB on the other hand needed MI to beat DC as then they sailed into the playoffs with 16 points.
This is what happened and Royal challengers Bangalore will now play Lucknow Super Giants in the Eliminator match on May 25, Wednesday at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
The Twitterverse was all abuzz with this result as Virat Kohli and co at RCB was put into playoffs thanks to MI’s win over DC.
