Karachi Kings’ treatment of Mohammad Rizwan has been really baffling. While the wicketkeeper-batsman is a regular for Pakistan team across formats, he did not get the same treatment from Karachi Kings in the ongoing season of the Pakistan Super League (PSL).

Out of ten league games so far, Mohammad Rizwan has played only two games. His first appearance came in the very first match of the tournament for Karachi Kings which was against Peshawar Zalmi. Karachi had won that game by ten wickets and Mohammad Rizwan didn’t get a chance to bat. With the wicketkeeping gloves, he had taken a couple of catches.

For the next eight games, he warmed the bench as the Karachi-based outfit preferred Chadwick Walton behind the stumps. His second appearance came on Sunday when Karachi Kings took on Quetta Gladiators. Mohammad Rizwan probably got the chance because Karachi had already booked their place in the semifinal.

And after the game ended, Mohammad Rizwan did not refrain from speaking his mind out in front of the media. In a sly dig at captain Imad Wasim, the wicketkeeper said that only the skipper could tell the reason behind him only playing two games this season. He also made it clear that he is frustrated with the lack of chances.

“Only my captain can tell you why I haven’t play in more games as I am doing my best. They are saying I am a top order batsman but when there could be a chance for me to play, I am not given that chance” said Rizwan.

“It’s disappointing if the situation is like this in your 2nd or 3rd PSL. Everyone knows I’m the keeper for ODI, T20I & Test sides but I’m not getting a chance in PSL. The captain has to look at the combination so only he can explain why I’m not getting chances,” he added.

His comments came just days after Imad Wasim made it clear that Rizwan would only get a chance in the team if he fits the combination. In a baffling comment, the Pakistan allrounder had said that Rizwan “doesn’t [fit] in the team composition, it is what it is”.

“If Mohammad Rizwan doesn’t [fit] in the team composition, it is what it is. No doubt he is one of Pakistan’s top wicket-keepers but if he can’t come in our playing XI, we can’t help it,” Imad had said last week.

“We have to look at our squad. We have overseas players and positions in the batting order. We don’t think he is fitting in the batting order anywhere right now,” he added.
