MS Dhoni, on occasions, has shown that he is one of the fittest cricketers in the Indian cricket team presently. A large credit it goes to team management, who made it clear that fitness is as important as making runs.

Players who clear yo-yo test are only selected in the Indian cricket team while the rest are ignored or dropped.

Taking a leaf out of team India’s culture, many state associations also made the yo-yo test compulsory for the selection process.

Jharkhand Cricket Association was also one of the associations to do it but team’s fitness level was monitored by none other than MS Dhoni, who used to keep a register to keep a check on players’ fitness.

“He personally monitored the players’ yo-yo tests. Mahi took the register book and monitored the whole process for close to four-and-a-half hours. Those who weren’t up to the mark, he gave them 15 days to get better, fitness-wise,” Debashis Chakraborty, JSCA’s Secretary, told The Indian Express.

This clearly shows that international players are spreading the message at domestic level and in the time to come, the fitness culture will become must in domestic cricket as well.

Last year, BCCI dropped few players from the squad for failing the yo-yo test.

Ambati Rayudu could not board the fight to England after he failed the test while Mohammed Shami was ruled out of Afghanistan Test due to the same reason.

In 2017, Yuvraj Singh was dropped for failing yo-yo test while Suresh Raina failed to make his comeback after not achieving the desired mark in the test.

Last year, few of the IPL franchises also asked the players to pass yo-yo test but there wasn’t any news of players being dropped due to it.

Talking of ongoing India-Australia series, the hosts are leading by a margin of 2-0 and a win in third ODI will see them clinch the series.

The hosts won the first ODI by six wickets by chasing down a target of 237 while in the second, Men in Blue defended a total of 250 brilliantly in a close contest.
