India’s left-handed opening batsman Shikhar Dhawan was not part of the team’s set-up of late owing to a knee injury. His absence paved the way for KL Rahul to open alongside Rohit Sharma in T20I and ODI series against West Indies at home. It has been learnt that Dhawan ran through a deep gash on his knee while playing in the Syed Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy tournament and had to get 25 stitches.

In the latest update, Shikhar Dhawan has been declared fit by the National Cricket Academy (NCA) and will get some much-needed time to play before the international games. He will turn up for Delhi team in the Round 3 Ranji Trophy encounter against Hyderabad which starts on December 25 at Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi.

My class is permanent and I will score runs: Shikhar Dhawan

It is because of the injury that prevented him from taking part in previous assignments. However, Shikhar Dhawan is confident of getting back to his usual ways of scoring runs for India. “Injuries are natural. You’ve got to accept that. It’s fine and I don’t create a big fuss about it. The start-stop thing doesn’t affect me as I haven’t forgotten how to bat. My class is permanent and I will score runs.”

Dhawan said that he is looking forward to performing well in the upcoming T20s against Sri Lanka. “This is an important season. I would like to perform well in the T20s against Sri Lanka but the selection is support staff’s (team management) headache. They will do their job and I will do mine. Looking forward to scoring big runs,” he was quoted as saying by PTI.
