Prithvi Shaw Stars As India A Thrash England Cricket Board XI In Warm-Up Game

There is absolutely no stopping Prithvi Shaw at the moment. The highly-rated youngster continued his red-hot form with the bat in England too, helping India A thrash England Cricket Board XI (ECB XI) by 125 runs in a practise match on Sunday.

Shaw top-scored for the visitors as they piled up 328 for 8 in the allotted 50 overs. The Mumbai batsman scored 70 to lay the foundation for a good total. He was in such a good form that when the scoreboard was reading 43, his opening partner Mayank Agarwal had scored just 4 before being dismissed. The 70-run knock came off just 61 balls and contained 7 fours and three sixes.

Shaw has been grabbing the limelight with his batting exploits for quite some time now. He made his first-class debut for Mumbai in the semi-finals of the 2016–17 Ranji Trophy on 1 January 2017. He had gone on score a century in the second innings to bag the Man of the Match award.

The right-handed batsman Shaw also scored a century in his debut match of the Duleep Trophy. He equaled the record held by Sachin Tendulkar, who had scored for the first time a century each in his debut matches of Ranji Trophy and Duleep Trophy respectively.

In December 2017, he was named the captain of the team for the 2018 Under-19 Cricket World Cup. He eventually led the team to the title and had scored 261 runs in the tournament. The impressive performances helped him get a whopping deal of INR 1.2 crore from Delhi Daredevils (DD). He impressed in the IPL too, finishing the season with 245 runs including two fifties.

Meanwhile, other notable contributors for India A were skipper Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan. Iyer scored 54  off 45 balls. On the other hand, Kishan, who had replaced Sanju Samson in the squad after the latter failed to clear the yo yo test, scored 50.  Hanuma Vihari (38) and Krunal Pandya (34) also played handy knocks as India A posted a huge total.

In reply, the local team was all out for just 203 in the 37th over. At 61 for 1 in the eighth over, ECB XI were well in the game. However, their innings got derailed once Khaleel Ahmed sent back opener George Hankins for 27. From thereon, they kept on losing wickets at regular intervals. Matthew Critchley top-scored for them, managing 40.

For India A, Deepak Chahar starred with the ball. He picked up 3 for 48 while Axar Patel picked up 2 for 21.
