As the entire cricket fraternity is bidding adieu to 2019, current and former cricketers, cricket associations, cricket boards have all picked their favourite moments, best playing XI in all formats. Meanwhile, former Pakistan cricketer Rashid Latif has joined the bandwagon to reveal his best cricketing memory of the decade.

Latif who had criticised the whole Pakistan squad for performing badly in the 2019 World Cup while calling for major changes in the board has shockingly claimed that the infamous 2010 spot-fixing scandal involving Salman Butt, Mohammad Asif and Mohammad Amir is his favourite cricket moment of the decade.

His answer comes after International Cricket Council (ICC) took to micro-blogging site Twitter to post favourite cricketing memory of the decade and to which Latif’s answer took the entire cricketing fraternity by shock.

It is cognisance of the fact that the 2010 spot-fixing scandal shocked the cricketing globe when Salman Butt, Mohammad Asif and Mohammad Amir were convicted of taking money behind the scenes from a bookmaker identified as Mazhar Majeed to bowl deliberate no-balls during the Lord’s Test against England in August 2010.

Asif and Amir bowled no-balls at a specific period of time

Reporters from News of the World recorded Majeed taking a bribe and the bookmaker informed the undercover reporters that Asif and Amir would be delivering no-balls during a particular period of the game. Amir and Asif were caught by the cameras as they bowled no-balls during the Lord’s Test match against England.

Following this scandal, Scotland Yard arrested the accused Majeed whereas the global cricket body, ICC decided to ban Asif, Amir and Butt for terms of between 5 and 10 years. While Salman Butt and Mohammad Asif were found guilty by a London court on criminal charges, Mohammad Amir and Majeed had pleaded guilty over the same.

However, Mohammad Amir made a return to international cricket for Pakistan after the completion of his term and was also part of the team for the ICC World Cup 2019. Pn the contrary, Salman Butt is yet to make an international return as he is now playing domestic cricket. He was also recently seen playing in Qatar T10 League in Doha.
