India have preferred all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja over Ravichandran Ashwin for both the Test against West Indies. Many were in a state of shock to see Jadeja’s name in the playing XI, but the all-rounder has justified his selection. And now head coach Ravi Shastri has revealed the reason behind his inclusion in the first XI.

Ravindra Jadeja has been in stellar form since the ICC World Cup 2019. He has proved his worth every time he has got an opportunity. The Saurashtra-born all-rounder did an exceptional job in all departments which compelled the management to continue with him.

Ravi Shastri hailed Ravindra Jadeja for his fabulous record and backed his inclusion in the playing XI. Shastri also spoke about what stood out for Jadeja as a spinner. His ability to control the line and length played a decisive role.

“Look at Jaddu, his record is fabulous. You have to see what he brings to the table. He is probably best fielder in the world now and he has improved his batting like hell,” Shastri said ahead of the second days’ play.

Furthermore, Ravi Shastri said that Jadeja’s ability to bowl on a damp wicket in the first session of a Test match played a crucial part in his inclusion in the first Test. Praising Jadeja, Shastri also hailed Ravichandran Ashwin and Kuldeep Yadav – the other two spinners in the squad.

“The reason why we picked Jadeja in the first Test, was in case we fielded, and the track was damp, with his pace, he would have made life little awkward for the batsmen. That was the reason why we picked Jadeja even though Ash (Ashwin) is a world-class spinner. It is difficult decision to leave out Ashwin or Kuldeep (Yadav),” Shastri concluded.
