Rishabh Pant may have made his debut for the Indian cricket team only a couple of years ago, but in this short span of time, the prodigiously talented wicketkeeper-batsman has seen a plethora of soaring highs as well as heart-wrenching lows.

Hailed as the natural successor to former Indian captain and one of the greatest wicketkeeper-batsman of all times MS Dhoni, Pant has come under heavy scrutiny courtesy his appalling form with the bat and underwhelming wicket-keeping skills.

In a freewheeling chat on Instagram with his Indian Premier League franchise Delhi Capitals, Rishabh Pant talks opened up on a plethora of things ranging from the things that he has learned by observing his ‘mentor’ MS Dhoni to picking his favorite batting partner.

Pant hailed Dhoni as his favorite partner, adding that such is the calmness that the legendary cricketer enthuses, everything feels sorted in his presence.

“Although my favourite batting partner is Mahi Bhai, we get very few chances to bat together. When Mahi Bhai is there, everything feels sorted out as you just have to follow his plan,” Pant said.

He added “There is Virat, Rohit, whenever you bat alongside seniors, it is a different experience,”

Coming back to Rishabh Pant’s career, the left-hander had a swashbuckling entry to international cricket when he became the first Indian wicket-keeper to score Test hundreds in Australia and England. But post that, it has all been downhill for Pant.

It all started with the 2019 World Cup semi-final where the left-hander was criticized for his injudicious shot-making. His selection of posts coupled with his lean patch with both bat and behind the behind reached its nadir during the succeeding home season, forcing the team-management to hand over the keeping duties to KL Rahul during the ODI series against Australia back in January.

Pant did not feature in a single white-ball game during the New Zealand tour and while he made a shock return to the Test team, his form with the bat was once again not upto scratch as he managed just 60 runs across 4 innings.
