India star Rohit Sharma looks set to return to action soon. The opening batsman has been on the sidelines since injuring his calf in the fifth and final T20I against New Zealand last month. He was subsequently ruled out of the three-match ODI series as well as the upcoming two-match Test series against the Black Caps.

At first, the injury did not look too serious before the batsman and the team-management decided against taking any risk. In his and his partner Shikhar Dhawan’s absence, Mayank Agarwal and Prithvi Shaw opened the innings in the ODIs. And one can say that India missed both Rohit Sharma and Dhawan dearly as they were whitewashed in the three-match series.

Well, Rohit Sharma now looks all set to return to action. After the Test series against New Zealand, India will play a three-match ODI series at home against South Africa. The series will get underway on March 12 in Dharamsala and Rohit Sharma looks well on his way to play the series.

Earlier there were reports that Rohit might not be fit in time for the series and could return only during the Indian Premier League (IPL). But on Tuesday, the batsman himself gave a promising update by posting a video of himself training in the gym on Instagram. In the video, the opening batsman could be seen doing dead-lifts.

The series against South Africa ends on March 18. Just ten days after that, the thirteenth edition of the IPL will get underway with Rohit Sharma-led Mumbai Indians taking on Chennai Super Kings in a blockbuster tournament-opener. Mumbai Indians are the defending champions and are favourites to lift the title once again.
