Just a handful of days after the BCCI cut short his life ban, former India bowler S Sreesanth suffered another traumatic incident as a massive fire broke out at his home in Edappally, Ernakulam at 2:30 AM on Saturday. The timing of the mishap made things worse although no person was injured.

According to reports, one of the rooms in the house was completely charred. While Sreesanth was away shooting for a film in Mumbai, his wife, children and domestic helps were inside the house.  The fire was first noticed by neighbour who reacted smartly and called the fire officials. The officials did not take long to douse the fire and evacuate those present inside the house by breaking open a glass ventilator.

According to Sreesanth, the fire broke out in the drawing room in the ground floor when his wife and children were on the first floor. It is believed that a short circuit in a ceiling fan caused the fire.

“A fire broke out at cricketer Sreesanth’s house in Edappally, Kochi, earlier today. A room was gutted in it. No injuries have been reported,”  reported ANI.

Sreesanth, meanwhile, recently saw his life-ban cut to seven years. The ban was imposed on him for the IPL spot-fixing scandal in 2013.  BCCI ombudsman DK Jain ordered for S Sreesanth’s spot-fixing ban to be reduced to a seven-year suspension. Thus Sreesanth will be eligible to play from September 2020.
Jain’s order came just months after the Supreme Court had set aside Sreesanth’s life ban in March this year, asking the BCCI to consider a fresh punishment for the former India pacer, who already has served six years away from the game.

Sreesanth, meanwhile, has said he is eager to don the Indian jersey again and take 100 Test wickets.

“I am so relieved and happy. All these years I have been trying to prove my innocence and the efforts have finally bore fruit. It’s God’s grace that I have finally managed to come out of this and hopefully, I can be active in cricket again,” Sreesanth told MyKhel.
