Sanjay Bangar is in line to join IPL franchise Royal Challengers Bangalore as their batting coach. As per a report in TOI, he could join the franchise for the upcoming season of the league. The Virat Kohli-led team parted ways with Gary Kirsten and Ashish Nehra on Friday, roping in Simon Katich as Head coach and Mike Hesson as the Director of Cricket Operations.

The report regarding Bangar also confirms that the team might have also dropped batting coach.

Bangar, the present assistant coach of India, is on a 45-day extended period. Unlike Ravi Shastri, Bharat Arun and R Sridhar, he wasn’t the top choice in the preference list and is set to be replaced by Vikram Rathour as the batting coach of the national side.

Hence, he will be available to coach IPL franchises once again. Probably, the franchise is waiting for BCCI’s final decision over Bangar.

Vikram Rathour, BCCI

Although Rathour is the top preference, he will have to clear himself of conflict of interest, which he is expected to do. As soon as he will clear himself, BCCI will officially appoint him as the batting coach.

But if this doesn’t happen, Bangar will keep his job by virtue of being the second candidate on the preference list. It is also to be noted that Bangar might be offered to work with India A or at NCA but the chances of him joining that are unlikely. In this case, third preference Mark Ramprakash might be made the offer by BCCI.

The doubts regarding the upcoming coaches of the Indian team and RCB will be clear once BCCI officially hands out contracts to coaches.

Bangar had earlier worked with Kings XI Punjab. In 2014, he was highly rated by the team’s players’ and captain George Bailey, which saw him become the batting coach of Indian cricket team the same year.

While changes were made to team India’s staff in the next five years, Bangar continued to be part of the set-up and is currently in West Indies.
