Delhi Capitals are reportedly interested in buying Rajasthan Royals star Ajinkya Rahane. The former Rajasthan Royals skipper had a poor season with the bat last season. In fact, he had to give up captaincy midway through the last season as he failed to inspire the Royals to positive results. The Royals replaced Rahane with Steve Smith as the captain of the side after losing six of their opening eight games.

Rahane was named the captain of the side in 2018 after the BCCI barred Smith from playing in the IPL due to the ball-tampering scandal. Rahane’s track record as captain was not at all impressive as he won just nine of the 23 games he led. His batting was also not at his best perhaps because of the captaincy burden. During his captaincy phase in the last two seasons, Rahane scored 455 runs in 16 innings at an average of 30.33.

In the last season, he managed just 393 runs in 14 games including one knock of 105*. Rahane has been with the Royals since 2012 and has been one of their batting mainstays. Delhi Capitals are now looking to rope in Rahane to bolster their own ranks, according to Bangalore Mirror. The Delhi side is full of youngsters and an experienced batsman like Rahane could be just perfect for them. Delhi Capitals are in negotiations with Royals at the moment.

Delhi did extremely well last season to make it to the playoffs and will be keen to build on the promising season. They already have the likes of Shikhar Dhawan, Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant and Prithvi Shaw in their rank. Rahane’s addition is only going to bolster the batting. The news outlet also claimed that Royals are in negotiations with Kings XI Punjab to swap their spinner K Gowtham with Ravichandran Ashwin.
