Shreyas Iyer To Lead Delhi Capitals In IPL 2020

The flamboyant batsman Shreyas Iyer is enjoying his current form with the bat and delivering goods more often than not for the Indian National Cricket Team. In the meantime, the chairman of Delhi Capitals Parth Jindal officially announced Shreyas Iyer as the skipper of the team. The young Mumbai batsman Shreyas Iyer will lead the Delhi franchise once again in the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League.

In the last edition, under the leadership of Iyer, Delhi finished third on the point table. It was a massive improvement for the team, who finished on the bottom half of the table in the previous seasons. With Shreyas Iyer, the team got the stability in the tournament, as he led Delhi to beat the finest teams of the competition in a previous couple of seasons.

With the addition of Ravichandran Ashwin and Ajinkya Rahane in the side, the fans have expected them to change their skipper, but the franchise relied their trust on the young Shreyas Iyer for the next season as well. The chairman Parth Jindal believes that Iyer will be benefitted with the presence of two stalwart players.

”We went from being at an eighth place to coming third last year. He has done a wonderful job for the team. He has also cemented his place in the Indian side. We don’t need to tinker with the formula. Rahane and Ashwin on the side are great. Iyer will benefit from the experience in the side,” Parth Jindal said after the auction.

Delhi Capitals have played a smart game during the IPL 2020 Auction. They bagged Shimron Hetmyer for INR 7.75 Crores, who had an immense success in India in the last couple of seasons for the West Indies. They also opted for Chris Woakes, after missing out Pat Cummins to Kolkata Knight Riders.
