Former India skipper Sourav Ganguly is all set to be re-elected as the President of the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) for the second term. There was no opposition against his five-member panel with the deadline over for filing nomination.
Ganguly took over the role of the President of CAB after the death of Jagmohan Dalmiya in 2015. The former cricketer joined the Bengal cricket body in 2014 as the joint-secretary. His six years as office-bearer will come to an end on July 2020, which is 10 months from now.
Post that, the cooling-off period will commence for Sourav Ganguly. As of now, he holds no posts other than that of CAB President. His tenure as the Delhi Capitals mentor came to an end after the end of IPL 2019.
It is likely that Ganguly will renew his contract with Delhi before the start of the next edition of the IPL. It will be interesting to see if Ganguly continues as CAB president from April onwards when the franchise-based T20 league starts.
Jagmohan Dalmiya’s son Abhishek Dalmiya will get a promotion and will hold the chair of a secretary. On the other hand, Debabrata Das of Town Club will take over the post of joint secretary. Veteran administrator Naresh Ojha will be the only vice-president now while Debashis Ganguly is the treasurer.
The CAB will hold its 85th Annual General Meeting on September 28, as per the Committee of Administrators. They last held their AGM in 2015 in 2015 when Jagmohan Dalmiya took over the chair for the eighth consecutive terms.
President: Sourav Ganguly; Vice-president: Naresh Ojha; Secretary: Abhishek Dalmiya; Joint secretary: Debabrata Das; Treasurer: Debasish Ganguly.
