There is absolutely no stopping Steve Smith at the moment. Even the bouncer blow that he copped in the second Ashes Test did not deter his confidence as he scored yet another century in the ongoing fourth Ashes Test. The former Australia skipper now has three centuries and a knock of 93 in the four innings he has played this season.

And Smith’s latest century has helped him add yet another feather to his already illustrious cap. The right-handed batsman, who recently became the number one Test batsman, went past legendary India cricketer Sachin Tendulkar’s mark in an illustrious list led by none other than his fellow Australian Don Bradman.

Smith is now the second fastest cricketer in the history of the sport to hit 26 centuries in the longest format. He broke Tendulkar’s record to take the second spot in the table. Smith took 121 innings to reach the milestone while Tendulkar reached the mark in his 136th innings. Bradman leads the list for scoring his 26th Test ton in just his 69th innings.

Fastest (in terms of innings) to 26 Test tons:

69: Don Bradman (Aus)

121: Steve Smith (AUS)

136: Sachin Tendulkar (IND)

144: Sunil Gavaskar (IND)

145: Matthew Hayden (AUS)

Smith resumed day of the Test on 60 and was dropped on 65 when Jofra Archer failed to hold a chance off his own bowling. Smith made the most of the reprieve and went on to score his 11th Ashes ton. He reached the tripled-digit mark in 160 balls, including 11 fours.

Smith’s knock has once again put Australia in a comfortable position. The visitors were 245 for 5 at lunch. Marnus Labuchagne also impressed with the bat as he scored his fourth consecutive fifty in the series.
