Virat Kohli sees a greater increase in his Twitter fan base than Narendra Modi and Sachin Tendulkar

Indian skipper Virat Kohli is the most dominant batsman in world cricket right now with his impeccable form which seems to be ever-lasting. The Delhi-born star has acquired a staggering fan base all over the world not only due to his exceptional abilities as a cricketer but also because of his charming looks. Not only laymen, but celebrities across the globe have continuously flattered the cricketer mentioning themselves as his fans. However, the sublime stroke player has made it a habit to break records not only on the field but off the field too.

Virat Kohli stunned the world when he took over Argentine and Barcelona football superstar Lionel Messi in Forbes’ list of most valuable athletes in 2017. Virat Kohli’s Twitter followers have also seen a significant rise by 61% as of December 4 from 12.9 million last year to 20.8 million last year. His percentage of increase is greater than that of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi who saw an increase by 52% from 24.6 million to 37.5 million in the same time period. However, Modi remains the most followed Indian celebrity on Twitter.

Sachin Tendulkar’s Twitter account also a saw a rise by 56 percent while both Kohli and Sachin made it to the top 10 followed Twitter accounts for the first time according to Twitter.

The most followed Indian celebrity list is dominated by B-town celebrities such as Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, Amitabh Bachchan, Deepika Padukone, Akshay Kumar, Aamir Khan and Hrithik Roshan. Shah Rukh and Salman both saw an increase of 40% which took their accounts to 30.9 and 28.5 million respectively.

According to statistics, the 2017 ICC Champions Trophy final between India and Pakistan was the most tweeted One Day International match in the history of the micro-blogging site. Around 1.8 million tweets were released on the platform about the match which saw Pakistan win their first ever Champions Trophy title beating arch-rivals India.
