Team India skipper, Virat Kohli is all set to play county cricket for Surrey for the first time in his career.

He has signed with Surrey as an overseas player for June. It means Kohli will miss the historic one-off Test against Afghanistan which is scheduled to take place at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru on 14th June.

Kohli will further miss the two-match T20I series against Ireland owing to his prior commitments with Surrey. As per the bindings in the contract, the Indian skipper will play his first game for Surrey on 1st June. It will be a List A contest against Kent Spitfires.  Kohli’s last match for Surrey will come from 25th to 28th June. It will be a first-class match against Yorkshire.

Meanwhile, India will play against Ireland on 27th and 29th June respectively, and there is no way Kohli can be part of the team. It shouldn’t be a bother for India, as they have a terrific bench strength who might come into the fray.

After the club confirmed the news itself a couple of days back, it not only ruled Virat Kohli out of the Afghanistan Test but also looms the chances of his unavailability for the Ireland T20I’s.

Some of the top Indian players will miss a couple of T20I’s against Ireland. Shikhar Dhawan, Jasprit Bumrah, Bhuvneshwar Kumar in all likelihood will play for India A ahead of the tour of England. Ireland will be facing a 2nd string Indian side, similar to what India played in the Nidahas Trophy.

Rohit Sharma will lead the team in the absence of Kohli. However, his deputy will be someone else, as Dhawan will play for India A. The players who will be playing for India A will also miss the three-match T20I series against England starting on 3rd July.

However, skipper, Virat Kohli is expected to return and will take over the captaincy from Rohit Sharma.

A three-match ODI series against the three lions will follow. It will end on 17th July. Meanwhile, the Test series against England is scheduled to start from August 1.
