Virat Kohli Reveals Anushka Sharma's Role In His Career

While each one of us rightly believe that Virat Kohli‘s meteoric rise is down to his hard-work and immense discipline, the India skipper thinks on a different line. After an average entry to international cricket, the 28-year old has transformed himself into arguably the best batsman in the world at the moment.

From slamming four successive double centuries in Test arena, to scoring freely in limited-overs cricket, the juggernaut named Kohli has been unstoppable in the last few years. His track record as captain has been equally impressive. The number one T20I and ODI batsman is yet to lose a Test or ODI series as a captain and is growing from strength to strength with every passing game. Well, Kohli thinks that his success as a batsman and a captain is down to lady luck which has been showered upon him by none other than his long-term girlfriend Anushka Sharma.

Kohli and Anushka has remained strong through thick and thin and the former believes the arrival of the Bollywood actress made him a better human being. Speaking on the sets of ‘Breakfast with Champions’, the Indian run-machine said how Anushka has turned him into a more sensible and patient guy in the last four years they have been dating.

“Sir lady luck ka kamaal hai (I’ve got to thank the lady luck). You’ve (Gaurav) seen me, you know I had no brains before. Ever since the lady has come into my life, she’s taught me a lot of things,” Kohli told the host Gaurav Kapur. “I’ve learnt a lot, become more sensible in the last 4 years all because of her. She’s taught me how to be more patient and taught me how to utilise the position you are in to the fullest.”

Kohli went on reiterate Anushka’s unwavering support for him during the tough times particularly when he was enduring a terrible time in England in 2014.

“Luckily I have never tried to change myself over the years. But the flip has been because of her. That period in England in 2014. Anushka was there in my life, she understood what I was going through so she kept me motivated,” he said.

“Her support helped me push through, however bad it was for me. She was a constant in that time… And then Australia happened (the tour in 2014-15 when Kohli scored four hundreds in four Tests) and I ended up scoring runs, in her presence. So it was a special thing for both of us because she also faced a lot of flak,” he added.

Kohli and Anushka have never shied away from getting spotted in the public unlike some other celebrity couples and the cricketer credited his former teammate Zaheer Khan for the same.

“A very big reason behind me not hiding my relationship is Mr. Zaheer Khan. Luckily he was one of the first guys I spoke to about this and he said whatever you do don’t try to hide it because you’ll stress yourself. And on top of that you’re in a relationship, you’re not doing anything wrong,” he said.

“I’m actually very grateful that my first interaction about this was with Zak. And he told me the right thing to do so I’ve followed it ever since,” the 28-year-old added.
