Ahead of the World Cup final against England at Lord’s on Sunday (July 23), India’s women team has been showered with wishes from all quarters. Mithali Raj & Co. have displayed a brilliant brand of cricket in the tournament and are deservedly in the final.

That Team India meant business in the tournament was very much clear from the first game when the Women in Blue defeated hosts England by 35 runs. The Mithali Raj-led side then proved its title credentials by defeating reigning World T20 champions West Indies, Pakistan and Sri Lanka in the following three games. Two consecutive defeats against South Africa and Australia threatened to derail the promising campaign but the ladies bounced back in style by trouncing New Zealand by a whooping margin of 186 runs in the do-or-die game to qualify for the semifinal.

They continued the red-hot form in the semifinal too where they thrashed defending champions Australia by 36 runs to take India to its second World Cup final. The last time the women made it to the World Cup final in 2005, they lost by 98 runs against Australia and they will be keen to go one step ahead this time. And while they are certainly putting in the hard work to realise the dream, they also have the blessing of millions of supporters behind them. And now some eminent sports personalities have also poured their wishes for Mithali Raj’s side.

The wishes are led by India’s men team’s captain Virat Kohli.

“This message is for Mithali Raj and the girls. Just wanna wish them all the best for the big final tomorrow. It’s been amazing to see the way you all have played in this World Cup so far and we all have been watching keenly watching and enjoying the display of cricket and the display of belief as a team and some brilliant individual performances also. So very well led by Mithali Raj. Si as I said all the very best for the finals tomorrow. Everybody will be watching and supporting and sending you positive energy. We all believe that you can do it once more and wish you all the luck in the world. Go out there and conquer what’s yours. Good luck,” Kohl said.

Olympic bronze medalist Saina Nehwal also posted a video, saying: “I wish the Indian women cricket team all the best for the World Cup final.”
