Indian captain Rohit Sharma had another disappointing outing in the second Test against Sri Lanka that got underway at the M. Chinnaswamy stadium in Bengaluru on Saturday.

After opting to bat first, the team got off to a poor start as Mayank Agarwal was involved in a comical run-out. While the Lankan players were appealing for an LBW, Agarwal tried to sneak a run but Rohit denied it, leaving the Karnataka batter stranded.

Rohit was sent back soon after by Lanka’s best bowler in the first Test, Lasith Embuldeniya. The pink ball was already showing signs of turn and the surface also seemed conducive to spin bowling.

Embuldeniya pitched one up to Rohit and a defensive prod saw an outside edge being induced. It was gobbled up at the second slip and India was in deep trouble at 29/2. It led to the arrival of Virat Kohli in his adopted home town and he was welcomed with cheers.

Heading into the match, Axar Patel was expected to come back into the team after regaining match fitness. He replaced Jayant Yadav in the team and it is a like-to-like replacement for the home side.

There were no other changes from the team that dominated in the first Test. India stuck with the 3 spinner-2 pacer combo that has worked wonders for them in home games.
