Out-of-favour India pacer Siddharth Kaul starred with the ball as Punjab thrashed Andhra by four wickets in the Ranji Trophy on Wednesday. In the first innings, he picked up five wickets and wound up the Andhra innings with a hat-trick to help Punjab bowl out the opposition for just 97.

Siddharth Kaul picked up the hat-trick in the 40th over of the innings, dissmissing KV Sasikanth, Swaroop Kumar and S. Ashish on three consecutive deliveries. The right-arm pacer castled each batsman as he put Punjab in control of the match. Andhra then came up with an impressive bowling performance too as they bowled out Punjab for just just 108.

Punjab were reduced to 95 for 9 in response to Andhra’s 97 but Anmol Malhotra helped the side take a slender first-innings lead. For Andhra, Shoaib Md Khan and Ashish shared all ten wickets between them and completed their respective five-wicket hauls as well.

But Andhra batsmen failed to get going in the second innings too as their team was all out for just 134, setting Punjab a target of only 124.  At one stage, Andhra were reeling at 36 for 7 before skipper Ricky Bhui and KV Sasikanth stopped the rot and added 94 runs for the eighth wicket. But Andhra suffered another collapse and lost their last three wickets for just four runs. Bhui top-scored for his side, scoring 61 while Sasikanth scored 47.

In reply, Punjab started in a disastrous manner too and lost five wickets for just 32 runs. But before Andhra could make further inroads in the thrilling game, Anmol Malhotra and Abhishek Gupta steadied the ship. The two added 69 runs for the sixth wicket to all but seal the game for their side before Gupta departed for 37.

Anmol, on the other hand, went on to score his fifty and took Punjab over the line while sharing an unbeaten stand of 28 runs with Mayank Markande.
