Australian cricket icon Brett Lee has picked India as the top contender for the 2024 T20 World Cup title, scheduled to take place in the West Indies and the USA. Brett Lee expressed confidence in the Indian team's abilities despite their final loss to Australia in last year's ODI World Cup 2023.

Indian players are currently participating in the IPL 2024 season, which serves as ideal preparation for the upcoming World Cup. The announcement of India's T20 World Cup squad is expected in the coming weeks. The highly anticipated ICC tournament is set to take place from June 1 to 29.

Mahendra Singh Dhoni led India to victory over Pakistan in the final of the 2007 inaugural T20 World Cup in South Africa. The Men in Blue defeated Pakistan by five runs in the summit clash. It remains Team India's only title triumph in the tournament to date in the shorter format of the game.

Since their 2007 victory, India has reached the T20 World Cup final just once in eight editions. The Indian cricket team lost against Sri Lanka during the 2014 tournament in Bangladesh. They suffered semi-final exits in 2016 and 2022 and a group-stage exit in the 2021 edition.

My Team Has Consistently Demonstrated In The Past - Brett Lee

In an interview with TimesofIndia.com, Brett Lee predicted India as the frontrunner for the T20 World Cup title. Lee emphasized India's compatibility with the T20 format, highlighting their ability to make quick decisions and adapt to various situations.

"When assessing the T20 format, I firmly believe it harmonizes well with the Indian team's strengths, both now and in the future. The rapid pace of T20 cricket emphasizes quick decision-making, adaptability, and explosive performances, qualities even my team has consistently demonstrated in the past," Lee told TimesofIndia.com.

All Player Excel Under Pressure - Brett Lee

Brett Lee highlighted that players excel under pressure in T20 matches, displaying dynamic batting, innovative bowling, and agile fielding skills. Consequently, he believes India holds all the advantages in the T20 World Cup.

"All players excel under pressure, showcasing dynamic batting, innovative bowling, and agile fielding. Additionally, the concise nature of T20 matches provides flexibility in team composition and tactics, fostering opportunities for players to shine so I feel India have all the advantages," he added.

Since their 2013 Champions Trophy win, the Men in Blue have faced final defeats in major ICC tournaments, including the 2014 T20 World Cup, the 2017 Champions Trophy, and the 2023 World Cup. The Indian team will aim to reverse their fortunes in the upcoming ICC event.

India will commence their World Cup campaign against Ireland in New York on June 5, followed by matches against Pakistan, the United States, and Canada. The highly anticipated India-Pakistan encounter is set for June 9 at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York.
