Former Indian skipper Virat Kohli might not be a part of the Indian squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup. As per initial reports in the Telegraph, Kohli might not be in the management’s plans for the mega event.

The Ajit Agarkar-led Indian think tank thinks that Kohli’s pace of playing in T20 cricket is not up to the mark to meet modern standards. The management says that ‘slow wickets don’t suit him’, and the BCCI chairman of selectors is expected to talk to Virat to chalk out the road ahead for the former India captain.

Kohli made a return to the Indian T20I side in the series against Afghanistan. He could not score too many and got out for a duck in the third T20I against the Afghans. Kohli then skipped the Test series against England due to personal reasons and has been out of the team ever since.

The BCCI secretary Jay Shah confirmed that Rohit Sharma will lead the Indian team in the T20 World Cup 2024 “We will discuss Virat’s role in due course,” Shah said. The reports in the Telegraph further say that the final call will taken by Ajit Agarkar.

The management is wanting to include the young players who have been a part of the team since last year. Suryakumar Yadav, Rinku Singh, Tilak Varma, and Shivam Dube are among the players as is Hardik Pandya despite not playing any form of international cricket since the World Cup.

Meanwhile, Harbhajan Singh is livid at the fact that Kohli might not be in the Indian T20 World Cup squad. He thinks that Kohli will make a comeback to the team using the IPL 2024.

“The IPL is coming and then there is the World Cup. Virat Kohli’s bat will make the same noise as before, probably louder. Of course, Virat has [unfinished business]. That World Cup trophy. He last won it when he was not Virat, but Cheeku. Won the World Cup in his first attempt but that’s the funny part about fortune. But from there, Kohli went on to become such a big player but without a World Cup – he played 2015, 2019 and now 2023 too. But still the trophy hasn’t come home, so he would be lamenting it,” Harbhajan said on his YouTube channel.

Virat Kohli was a part of India’s 2011 World Cup winning squad under MS Dhoni. He then won the ICC Champions Trophy for the Indian team under MS Dhoni as well. Since then, he has been a part of every Indian team that made it to the final or the semi-final of ICC events. His latest defeat was in the 2023 ODI World Cup final. He led the Indian team to the 2019 semi-final that lost unfortunately to New Zealand.

Can’t Digest Virat Kohli Not Winning Another World Cup: Harbhajan Singh

Harbhajan Singh concluded by saying that he is finding it tough to digest the fact that Kohli might have to end his career without winning another ICC tournament as a player.

“A player like Virat Kohli not winning a World Cup? I can’t digest it. No matter how many records he makes, how many runs he scores, as far as I know, his hunger will never diminish. And a major part of it is to lift that shiny trophy. Every player’s ultimate dream is to win a World Cup trophy. Your records remain for you until the end. But people don’t remember records; they remember trophies” concluded Harbhajan Singh.

Virat Kohli will make a comeback to competitive cricket in IPL 2024 after skipping the England series due to personal reasons.
