The West Indies team received a body blow as they were deemed to be two overs short after adjustments and considerations by the match referee, Richie Richardson, resulting in a 2-point penalty in the ICC WTC Points Table 2021-23.

The players were also fined 40% of their match fees. This is Windies’ first such offence in this year’s cycle and is also the third team to lose points over slow rate after England and India. As per the rules, each team loses one point for every over they are behind.

They dropped down to eighth in the rankings as a result, one below Bangladesh. West Indies now has 14 points, only 23.33% of points secured so far. England on the other hand is doing worse, with just 11.67% of points secured.

The Windies have confirmed that they will be sticking with their 13-man squad for the second game. “It was a hard-fought first match in Antigua and we decided to stick with the same 13 players for the second match in Barbados,” West Indies lead selector Desmond Haynes said. “It was hard work for all the bowlers, and we were very happy with the way they stuck to the task,” he added.

West Indies squad for 2nd Test: Kraigg Brathwaite (captain), Jermaine Blackwood, Nkrumah Bonner, Shamarh Brooks, John Campbell, Joshua Da Silva, Jason Holder, Alzarri Joseph, Kyle Mayers, Veerasammy Permaul, Anderson Phillip, Kemar Roach, Jayden Seales
