Former India opener Virender Sehwag has shared his views on Yashasvi Jaiswal being compared to legendary cricketers after making a stunning start to his Test career. The left-handed batsman has made a stunning start in the longest format of the game. After impressing in the domestic circuit, he finally made his Test debut during the tour of the West Indies last year.

He hit the ground running in international cricket as he played a brilliant knock of 171 in his debut Test innings. He was adjudged the player of the match for his effort in his debut Test.

In the second Test against the Caribbean outfit, he registered scores of 57 and 38 to finish the series as the highest run-scorer. In South Africa, he struggled for runs before bouncing back in style by playing two impressive knocks in the ongoing five-match series against England.

Virender Sehwag on Yashasvi Jaiswal:

In the first Test in Hyderabad, he played a quickfire knock of 80 runs in the first innings. In the second Test, he scored a brilliant 209 to lead India’s charge with the bat. While no other batter could even touch the 40-run mark in the first innings, he scored his maiden double-century in Tests to propel the team to a challenging score of 396 runs.

With Yashasvi Jaiswal making a stunning start in Tests, the fans have started comparing him with some legendary cricketers such as Sachin Tendulkar. However, Virender Sehwag believes it is too early to make such comparisons.

“He is a very good batsman but I think comparisons are too early,” Sehwag told PTI Bhasha.

Earlier, India captain Rohit Sharma had also lavished praise on Yashasvi Jaiswal after his brilliant double century against England. The veteran opener backed his younger teammate to go a long way in international cricket and hoped that he would stay humble.

“Looks like a very good player, understands his game. Got a long way to go, of course. It was an exceptional knock. He has a lot to offer the team, and I hope he stays humble,” Rohit had said after the Vishakhapatnam Test earlier this month.
