"Ishan Kishan is doing it wrong..." - AB de Villiers' bold statement on batter's ongoing saga

Former South African cricketer AB de Villiers shared his verdict on the situation of Ishan Kishan ahead of the third Test between India and England. He said that he also underwent through similar situation in his career and it is a very tricky situation to get out of.

Ishan Kishan has become one of the most talked-about names in Indian cricket in the last few months. The keeper-batter pulled out of the South Africa Tests and after that hasn’t played a single game for India after that. He has been asked clearly by the management to play some competitive cricket to make himself available for the India selection.

Ishan Kishan however, hasn’t responded anything but reportedly has been training with Hardik Pandya and Krunal Pandya in Baroda. There are a lot of controversies surrounding him as well with many lashing out at him for not playing Ranji Trophy despite being asked by India management.

AB de Villiers found Ishan Kishan’s scenario very interesting. He believes that young players are trying to manage their careers because there is a lot of cricket being played around. Speaking in a video posted on his YouTube channel, he explained:

“Very interesting scenario there in India and I’ve been through this quite a bit throughout my career as well. It’s a very tricky situation. Players trying to manage their careers, and rightfully so, but the difficulty around this is that there are a lot of T20 leagues around the world, IPL, and it’s taking up a lot of attention of the player’s focus is on that.”

AB de Villiers further while highlighting the situation of Ishan Kishan stated that players run out of energy sometimes and they focus on what is important to them. He elaborated:

“Very difficult because the ultimate format of the game is still Test cricket and all Test-playing nations really wanna look after the Test format, so there’s a bit of force in all kinds of directions here. Guys, you do run out of energy, and once you run out of energy, you tend to go in your defensive mode and into a shell where you look after what you feel is important to you, and that’s a human reaction.”

AB de Villiers further gave his verdict on whether Ishan Kishan was doing right or wrong. He claimed that in such situations proper and regular communication is needed because managing a career is very difficult. Sharing his opinion, he explained:

“So, whether Ishan is doing it wrong or other players are doing it right or wrong, I don’t know but what needs to happen is proper communication. So, the players know exactly what, not only proper communication but proper and regular communication.

“I just wanna wish all the players the very best because managing the career is something I found extremely difficult in the backend of my career. It’s not an easy thing to manage. It starts with communication, real clear communication between selectors, coaching staff, and the BCCI and the players. People need to know where they stand and that is something expected of them.”

There have been some reports that claimed that Ishan Kishan might now make a comeback directly into the IPL.
