Ravichandran Ashwin gets in record books against England in the Vizag Test

There is no surprise to the fact that Ravichandran Ashwin registers new records in every Test series he plays nowadays. The Indian spinner achieved another record after picking three wickets in the 2nd innings of IND vs ENG 2nd Test. This time, Ravichandran Ashwin has bagged a significant record against England in Tests.

After India set up a 399-run target for England in IND vs ENG 2nd Test, Ravichandran Ashwin picked up three crucial wickets. The off-spinner dismissed opener Ben Duckett at 28 with an edge to wicketkeeper KS Bharat. He also dismissed Ollie Pope with a Rohit Sharma’s catch at slips. Later, he also overpowered dangerous batter Joe Root.

Ravichandran Ashwin achieves record for most wickets against England in Tests

Bagging three wickets, Ravichandran Ashwin has clinched the record for most wickets against England in Tests. The right-arm spinner has hunted 97 wickets against England in the longest format across 21 games.

He owns a bowling average of 29.0 across 39 innings. Ashwin has also picked 6 five-wicket hauls against England and one ten-wicket haul. With 499 wickets, Ashwin is en route to 500 wickets tally in Tests.

Notably, Ravichandran Ashwin has surpassed BS Chandrasekhar for the record for most scalps against England. The former India spinner accounts for 95 wickets across 23 Tests against England averaging 27.27. Hence, Ashwin is now the most successful Indian bowler against England in Tests.

Ashwin short of 1 wicket to reach 500 Test wickets

The veteran spinner went wicketless in the 1st innings of IND vs ENG 2nd Test in Vizag. However, he made a stunning comeback in the 2nd innings. In the previous innings, Jasprit Bumrah stole the limelight with his 6-wicket haul.

Ravichandran Ashwin has 499 wickets in his kitty across 97 games. He has a superb opportunity to touch the 500 wickets mark in IND vs ENG 2nd Test. After Anil Kumble (618 wickets), Ashwin is the most successful bowler for India in red-ball format

India set a gigantic 399 target for England

Meanwhile, India aims to grab 4 wickets to win the Vizag Test against England. The visitors have a gigantic target of 399 in the match but have already lost 6 wickets with 200-plus runs on the board on Day 4.

India opted to bat first in IND vs ENG 2nd Test. Yashasvi Jaiswal led the way in batting in 1st innings with his double ton. Later, India bowled out England for 255. In 2nd innings, Shubman Gill scored a ton to drive India to 253. With a 225-run lead after 1st innings, Team India managed to set up a mountainous target for the visitors.

England leads the 5-match series 1-0. Earlier, they won the opening Test by 28 runs with a stunning comeback in the 2nd innings. However, they need a magical outing to outplay in the 2nd Test with only Ben Stokes and Ben Foakes left to bat.
