Rohit Sharma shatters MS Dhoni's huge record; only behind Virender Sehwag in elite list

Rohit Sharma is now the second leading six-hitter in Test cricket for India as he surpassed MS Dhoni in the list of most sixes by an Indian in Test cricket. The Indian skipper won the toss in the third Test and elected to bat first against England.

He smashed his 11th Test century in the first innings as he completed his century in just 157 deliveries smashing 11 fours and two sixes. Rohit Sharma has added more than 150 runs with Ravindra Jadeja for the fourth wicket at the end of the second session. England went wicketless in the second session after taking three wickets in the first.

Rohit Sharma has struck two sixes in this innings and with his second six of the innings he surpassed MS Dhoni’s record of 78 sixes in Test cricket as he moved to 79 sixes. He only needs 12 sixes more to become the leading six-hitter for India in Test cricket going past Virender Sehwag who has 90 sixes to his name in Test cricket. Rohit Sharma already has the most number of sixes in the T20I format where he has smashed 190 sixes and he has the most number of sixes as an Indian in ODIs having 323 sixes.

Rohit Sharma is known for his big hits and he has been a great six-hitter in all formats for India. He is currently the only player in the top ten players with the most sixes in Test cricket who has played less than 100 innings in Test cricket.

He was promoted as an opener in Test cricket in 2019 and since then the Hitman has not looked back in red-ball cricket having scored more than 2000 runs in 49 innings at an average of 48.74 and has scored eight centuries and six half-centuries as of now.

The top five Indian batters with the most sixes in Test cricket are Virender Sehwag with 90 sixes, Rohit Sharma with 79 sixes, MS Dhoni with 78 sixes, Sachin Tendulkar with 69 sixes, Kapil Dev and Ravindra Jadeja are currently tied for the fifth position with 61 sixes.

Rohit Sharma has smashed 16 half-centuries and 11 centuries, averaging 45.73 in Test cricket and is just a few runs away from completing 4000 runs in Test cricket for India. He is the captain of the Indian team in all formats and has been one of the best openers in world cricket. Rohit Sharma is leading the Indian side in the five-match Test series against India and has not lost a bilateral Test series as of now.

The Indian skipper would like to continue their unbeaten run in the Test series by winning the series against England. The Test series is currently levelled 1-1 with the Indian team losing the first Test by 28 runs in Hyderabad but then making a brilliant comeback in the second Test in Vizag. The third Test is an opportunity for both sides to take a lead in the series.
