Young India opener Yashasvi Jaiswal joined Sunil Gavaskar in an elite list for the India National Cricket Team in Test cricket. The southpaw became only the second player from Team India to muster over 700 runs in the bilateral Test series.

Yashasvi Jaiswal achieved the feat in the ongoing Test series against England. The opening batter has been in the red hot form and is making sure that he makes the most of his purple patch. The batter has hardly put a foot wrong in the series and is one of the main reasons why India have won the series.

Yashavi Jaiswal kickstarted the series with a whirlwind of 80 runs and then slammed two double centuries in the next two games before slamming a half-century in the 4th Test. If this was not enough, he was on the top of his game in the ongoing fifth Test against England underway at Dharamsala.

Yashasvi Jaiswal played another attacking inning and made sure that he took his team off the flying start. The batter slammed a brutal half-century and ended with an innings of 57 runs off 58 balls. He hit 5 boundaries and three sixes in his innings and made sure that India got off to a brisk start, adding 104 runs in partnership with skipper Rohit Sharma (52*).

During his innings, Yashasvi Jaiswal also surpassed the 700-run mark in the series and currently has 712 runs to his name, becoming the second batter after Sunil Gavaskar to achieve the feat. The batter great hit the milestone twice in his career when he scored 1971 in his debut series where he scored 774 runs against West Indies and slammed 732 runs in 1978/79 against the same opposition.

Yashasvi Jaiswal is just 63 runs away now from surpassing Sunil Gavaskar’s long-held record. With one innings left in the game, he will have a great opportunity to go past the batting great. With the way he has batted, it won’t be a surprise if he achieves the feat and etch his name in record books.

Yashasvi Jaiswal’s innings put India on the top in the ongoing game. After the hosts bundled out the opposition for just 218 runs, he made sure that India had a great start. At Stumps on Day 1, the Rohit Sharma-led were 135-1 and were just 83 runs behind England’s first innings total.

Yashasvi Jaiswal becomes the second-quickest Indian (16 innings) to score 1000 runs in Test cricket

Not only did Yashasvi Jaiswal complete 700 runs in the Test series against England, but he also shattered multiple records. The young batter became the second-quickest Indian (16 innings) to score 1000 runs in Test cricket just behind the former India cricketer Vinod Kambli, who achieved the feat in 14 innings.

In terms of matches, Yashasvi Jaiswal became the fastest batter in the history of Indian cricket to score 1000 runs in Test cricket. He unlocked the milestone in his 9th Test match and surpassed Cheteshwar Pujara, who achieved the feat in 11 games. Overall he became the joint second-fastest to achieve the feat, only behind Don Bradman.

Yashasvi Jaiswal also has the most Test sixes by an Indian player against an opponent. He now has hit 26 sixes against England and surpassed Sachin Tendulkar, who had smashed 25 sixes against the Australia cricket team.
