Yashasvi Jaiswal well and truly showed levels during his emphatic 209-run knock against England in the 2nd Test of a 5-match series here at Vizag’s ACA-VDCA cricket stadium. The youngster was India’s best batter in the 1st innings and his day 1 as well as day exploits have helped him join an elite list that features former Indian batting legends like Mohammad Azharuddin and Sunil Gavaskar.

The 22-year-old was extraordinary in his approach and displayed how far he has come forward in his career. Yashasvi Jaiswal depicted what a true modern-day impactful Test inning looks like after scoring his maiden Test double hundred.

In an overall bleak outing by the Indian batters, Jaiswal proved to be a shining light, a shooting star in the middle. He watched batters come and go but none of the English bowlers could test his resolve and make him drive off from his intent to score something big.

Even though there was a chance to get him out in the slips as James Anderson reached very close to get his wickets luck was on the side of Yashasvi Jaiswal. While his teammates kept heading to the dressing room cheaply, Jaiswal held on and kept the scoreboard ticking with his exceptional batting approach.

His terrific knock had glimpses of T20 aggression as well as the patience he developed throughout his time as a Ranji Trophy player. Jaiswal was not rushing anything, played with sheer calmness, respected the good balls, and punished the poor deliveries, especially the overpitched ones.

His front foot defense against spinners was classical and his step out to smack them for a six was bemusing. The 7 sixes that he smashed in his 209 run knockoff 290 deliveries was the joint 3rd highest by an Indian in a particular Test inning. He is equal with captain Rohit Sharma, former off-spinner Harbhajan Singh, former opener Virender Sehwag, and all-rounder Hardik Pandya in terms of most sixes in an innings.

Yashasvi Jaiswal is only behind former batter Navjot Singh Sidhu and Mayank Aggarwal in this list as both of them had scored 8 sixes respectively.

Yashasvi Jaiswal Overtakes Mohammad Azharuddin In Scoring Most Runs On Single Day. Joins Sunil Gavaskar And Vinod Kamble In Another List

The 22-year-old Mumbai-born batter overtook the long-standing record of former India captain Mohammad Azharuddin in terms of scoring the most runs on a single day of a Test match. Azharuddin had amassed 175 runs against England in the 2nd Test at Manchester during India’s 1990 tour.

Yashasvi Jaiswal went back to the pavilion yesterday after scoring 179 runs at the time of stumps on day 1 at Vishakhapatnam. Moreover, the left-hand batter with his 209-run knock, became the 3rd youngest Indian batter to score a double hundred after former batters Vinod Kamble and Sachin Tendulkar.

Kamble is ranked 3rd and Tendulkar is ranked 7th in the list and Jaiswal has overall become the 11th youngest batter to amass 200 in a Test match at the age of 22 years and 37 days. Yashasvi’s efforts helped India post a total of 396 in their 1st innings.
