Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal played a major role in turning the third IND vs ENG Test match towards India on Day 3. Jaiswal smashed his 2nd 100-plus score of the series and slammed a ton in 122 balls. The left-handed batter has already hit a double hundred in the series and played a knock of 209 runs in Visakhapatnam. However, Jaiswal wasn’t able to continue his dream knock as he had to walk off the field due to a back spasm for 104 runs.

Former Indian cricketer Ravi Shastri lauded Yashasvi Jaiswal and stated that he reminds him of a young Sachin Tendulkar. While speaking on air, Shastri stated that he was not just impressed with Jaiswal’s batting, but also with the way he was on the field. This reminded him of a young Sachin Tendulkar, who was ‘busy’ all the time. Also, he added that Jaiswal can be one of Rohit Sharma’s part-time options and get him to take out a few overs.

Ravi Shastri lauds Yashasvi Jaiswal

Ravi Shastri said, “Impressed with the way Jaiswal has stepped up today. Not just with the bat, but his performance on the field too. I think going forward, he could be one of Rohit’s go-to part-time options. The ball would be in his hands – whether it’s leg-spin, off-spin or medium-pace. Jaiswal reminds me of a young Tendulkar. Busy all the time. This is a classic example of the saying ‘If you believe in yourself, there is hope’. Nothing is impossible. That’s just a word. He will be constantly involved.”

England’s start of Day 3 was completely different from what they would have liked as they lost 2 wickets in a space of just 18 runs. Joe Root was removed by Jasprit Bumrah whereas Jonny Bairstow was caught in front against Kuldeep Yadav for a duck. Kuldeep also got the big fish, Ben Duckett for 153 runs off 151 balls and got him caught out by Shubman Gill. Mohammed Siraj ended England’s tail and picked up the last 3 of the four wickets.

In the end, England were wrapped up for 319 runs, wherein Mohammed Siraj picked up 4 wickets whereas Kuldeep Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja ended the innings with 2 wickets each. Jasprit Bumrah and Ravichandran Ashwin also picked up 1 wicket.

Coming out to bat with a lead of over 100 runs, India were off to a decent start as openers Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal added 30 runs for the first wicket. Rohit wasn’t able to continue his first innings magic and was removed for 18 runs by Joe Root. Jaiswal later put up a stand of 155 runs along with Shubman Gill, before getting returned hurt. Shubman Gill also brought up a welcome half-century after the failure in the first innings. India ended Day 3 at 196/2 wherein Gill and Kuldeep Yadav were unbeaten on 65 and 3 runs respectively.

The Indian team now will be aiming to put up a big innings target for England and also strengthen their chances of winning the match. The five-match series is currently levelled at 1-1, and India would want to gain a lead in the series.
