IRE vs IND: It's An Absolute Honour For Me – Hardik Pandya On Leading India Against Ireland

Star India all-rounder Hardik Pandya has said that captaining India National Cricket Team in the two-match T20I series against Ireland National Cricket Team is an “absolute honour” for him.

Hardik Pandya was given the captaincy responsibility after his success as a skipper in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022.

Hardik, who made his debut as a skipper in the Indian Premier League 2022, led the debutants Gujarat Titans (GT) to the IPL 2022 triumph. Also, he was Rishabh Pant’s deputy in the five-match T20I series against South Africa.

At the toss for the first match of the two-match T20I series at The Village, Malahide, Hardik Pandya was asked about his first stint as captain of the Team India.

The star all-rounder replied by saying that he feels lucky to represent India and get the opportunity to lead the team. He also said that leading India is a “very special moment” in his life.

“It’s an absolute honour for me to lead India because when any cricketer kind of starts playing, eventually would love to lead this country and obviously, I’m one of those lucky guys who got the opportunity to kind of represent my country and lead my country, which is going to be a very special moment in my life,” said Pandya.

When asked about what can be expected from his captaincy, Hardik said that all the players in the Indian team are professionals and his role is simply to back them and provide them with the support they need to shine.

“All are professionals, we have got quite a bunch of talent where a lot of people have shown the kind of range they have in their game. My role is simple, just kind of back them and kind of give them the support they need and ask them to kind of express themselves and play with freedom.”
