India will begin their white-ball series against New Zealand, which consists of three T20Is and three ODIs, on Friday, November 18, with the first T20I set to be played in Wellington, and the Kiwis will return to India for the white-ball series in January next year.

Yuzvendra Chahal was one of the few members of the team who did not get a single chance in the recently concluded T20 World Cup. The team management persisted with the strategy that included multiple finger spinners, leaving the leg spinner on the bench for the entire tournament.

Not Playing Chahal Was A Mistake – Mohammad Kaif

Speaking on Sportskeeda, former batsman Mohammad Kaif believes that Team India captain Rohit Sharma and coach Rahul Dravid are adept at making players realize their importance to the team and their absence from the playing XI if not selected. He stated that Rohit and Dravid understand how to manage players’ development and roles in the team.

“Rohit Sharma is not a new captain, he knows what his best playing XI is. We are thinking that not playing Chahal was a mistake, but we have to realize that Rohit Sharma and Rahul Dravid are huge names, they know exactly how to talk to players, how to improve them, and when to play them.”

Yuzvendra Chahal Must Be Upset On The Inside –  Mohammad Kaif

Kaif believes that Chahal would be disappointed not to be able to compete despite entering the tournament in good form and rhythm. The leg-spinner loved to bowl Australia’s big boundaries, and even in the semi-final against England, the Men in Blue were constantly on the back foot trying to counter the leg-spin of Adil Rashid and Liam Livingstone.

“Rohit Sharma and Rahul Dravid are knowledgeable about this format. When it comes to the player, all he can do is wait.”

“Yuzvendra Chahal must be upset on the inside, he knows the significance of the World Cup. He was groomed for around six months, he was in good form as well.”

Along with Chahal, wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant was left out of the first playing XI and was drafted into the squad for the last two matches in place of veteran keeper-batsman Dinesh Karthik.
